Why Don’t Diets Work?

It is a widely reported fact that 95% of diets don’t work! That fact doesn’t stop over 75% of people saying they had been on diet in the last year. So this being the case what s the point in losing 20 lbs, and gaining back 25 lbs and why do people do it? There is no doubt that there is great pressure over the last few years to look ‘thin’.

So why do diets fail? That’s the million dollar question. The main reason diets fail is we are guilty of falling for the latest cleaver marketing campaign. Over the last 10 years there has been a stack of diets on the market many endorsed by Hollywood stars.

Many of these diets DO work, BUT only short term. They often do produce quick weight loss and fantastic results. The problem is maintaining the weight loss as it is very difficult to stick to these eating plans. They are simply too boring. Once you lose the weight it is all too easy to slip back into your old ways and go back to your normal calorie intake. This will result in weight being put back on probably as fast as you lost it – often you will end up heavier that when you started the ‘diet’.

When Getting a Good Night’s Sleep Remains a Dream

Getting a good night’s sleep is essential for feeling refreshed and alert during the day. When we sleep, our body rests and restores energy levels. However, sleep is an active state that affects both our physical and mental well-being. A good night’s sleep is often the best way to help a person cope with stress, solve problems and get a full recovery from illness. But, with all the stresses of everyday life, not everyone can now afford to have the needed eight hours sleep. Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep is what an average adult needs to maintain an optimal mental and physical health.

April is STD Awareness Month

The month of April is known as STD Awareness Month. As effective as modern contraception methods are, most protect you from only one kind of risk: unintended pregnancies. But, unplanned parenthood is not the only risk that comes with unsafe and unprotected sex. Practicing unsafe sex also puts you at risk of contacting sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Since condoms are the only known and proven birth control method that protect against STDs and STIs, a lot of sexual health information can go a long way in keeping yourself safe and uninfected.

The Importance Of A Diet Mindset

shutterstock_116026450If you start to think about nutrition, you typically think about making changes on what you eat and drink. This is essential but even the internal changes has a big role to play. Always remember that change can only happen once your thoughts, emotions and action are united. If you urge yourself to consume a healthy diet along with the ideal diet mind set, you might be triumphant for a while but finally the longing as well as former habits will be intense. In order to prevent that from happening as well as making a healthy change easier on your part, you have to work uniformly as hard on your mind set as you do with the outer aspect.

Always remember that a simple change you can make is the way you think about food. Take note that there are actually ways on how you think or your mind set about eating. The first mind set is eating for pleasure. With this mind set, you judge the food based exclusively on how much pleasure it provides you at the moment. Unfortunately, majority of the best tasting foods contains refined sugar that has been manufactured to taste agreeable even though they were stripped of the needed nutrients. Remember that there is nothing wrong with eating food that tastes good. In reality, you will likely stick to your diet if you love how the food tastes. Nevertheless, if you prioritize pleasure on what food to eat, you will surely find it difficult to avoid foods that are not good for you.

Eight Symptoms of Diabetes

November is National Diabetes Month so we believe it is important to share some helpful information. If you have two or more of these pre-diabetes symptoms you should seriously consider getting yourself checked out:

1) If you find you are excessively thirsty, not just after extreme exercise or hot weather.

2) You seem to constantly have a dry mouth – even if you’ve just had a drink.

3) You find you are having to urinate frequently.

4) You have unexpected weight loss or gain (even though you may be constantly hungry and eating well. Of course you may be eating the wrong things which would probably make your pre-diabetes symptom worse).

5) You feel lethargic. You always feel as if you’ve got no energy; you are weak and tired all the time.

6) Sometimes your vision is blurry – be careful, untreated eye problems caused through diabetes can lead to blindness. You should have regular eye checks, especially as you get older because your eyes can be the early warning signal for many diseases ñ not just diabetes.

7) You have cuts or sores or bruises (especially on your feet) that are slow to heal.

8) If you experience excessive itching or soreness in the genital area or yeast infections (which can be misdiagnosed as thrush) it may be a sign of too much sugar in your urine.

AT RISK FACTORS:

There are different types of diabetes; pre-diabetes, type 1, type 2, gestational and maturity onset. And, dependent upon your age, lifestyle and family history you may be more susceptible to developing diabetes.

Foe example you may be more prone to developing diabetes if any of these factors apply to you:

  • Your family background is African American, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, or Hispanic American/Latino.
  • You have a parent, brother, or sister with diabetes.
  • You are aged over 45 and are overweight you might be at risk of diabetes type 2
  • You have had gestational diabetes or have given birth to a baby over 9 pounds in weight.
  • You have high blood pressure.
